History of the Institution
In 1948, an organization named Village Union was established with its headquarters at Kumbazha–Mylapra, as a result of the efforts of eminent personalities such as Rev. Fr. A. G. Abraham and Madhavavilasathu Madhavan Kartha. Later, as Panchayat Committees became widespread across the country, this organization evolved into the Kumbazha–Mylapra Panchayat.
Thus, the Kumbazha–Mylapra Panchayat was formally constituted in October 1953, on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti. From its inception until 1962, when the office was shifted to its own Panchayat building, the Panchayat office functioned in a building owned by Rev. Fr. A. G. Abraham.
Initially, the Kumbazha–Mylapra Panchayat was formed by incorporating parts of the Pathanamthitta, Ranni, and Vadasserikkara Villages. Following the reorganization in 1962, the areas of Kumbazha were merged with the then Pathanamthitta Panchayat. Subsequently, by incorporating the entire Mylapra Village along with portions of the Pathanamthitta and Ranni Villages, the present-day Mylapra Grama Panchayat came into existence.
Mylapra Grama Panchayat is blessed with a diverse geographical landscape comprising hills, valleys, and varied terrain. The topography of the Panchayat slopes from east to west and from north to south. While the western part of Mylapra is characterized by fertile soil, the eastern region is predominantly rocky terrain.
The region experiences a moderate climate, without extreme heat or cold, making it a naturally pleasant and favourable place for habitation and agriculture.
